What is ProgSoc?

The Programmers’ Society (or ProgSoc) is a student society affiliated with ActivateUTS, the university union, at the University of Technology Sydney.

ProgSoc aims: - To encourage programming within UTS - To create a diverse and inclusive environment for developers at UTS and beyond. - To work with or join organisations with similar objectives - To develop software for use by others outside ProgSoc

To achieve these objectives, ProgSoc typically runs events such as programming competitions, hackathons and classes/lectures to encourage programming.

ProgSoc hosts regular meetups and coding workshops which bring together our community of programmers to build on their skills and meet like-minded people. With these smaller events, ProgSoc accumulates new visitors and members alike and we often host these with neighbouring societies, depending on the topic. Typically, these small gatherings happen regularly throughout semester.

ProgSoc was founded in 1989 by Chris Keane and Roland Turner, who sought to create a society for people interested in programming. Since then, ProgSoc has gone from strength to strength. ProgSoc has built up a strong alumni network, with many former students still taking part in our activities.
